The awards for coasts, marinas and tourist boats were announced by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPPF), National Operator of the “Blue Flag” International Program in our country.
With 625 award-winning beaches, Greece once again ranks 2nd worldwide among 52 countries. As the EEPP reports, a steady upward trend is observed in our country with an increase in the number of award-winning beaches every year, with the awards once again exceeding 600 and in all of the 52 countries participating in the Program, Greece holds 15% of the international awardees coasts.
The prefecture of Halkidiki emerged as the first prefecture in Greece, with 104 flags and the Region of Crete maintains the first position with 146 flags. The International Commission awarded 4,252 beaches, 733 marinas and 141 tourist boats around the world. The annual announcement of our country’s Blue Flag beaches, marinas and tourist boats took place today on the Resurrection coast of Kalamata, in two phases.
In the morning, an educational event took place on the award-winning beach, with the participation of more than a hundred children and teachers from local schools. The children participated in experiential workshops and watched a lifesaving demonstration by the AQUA RESCUE Lifesaving School responsible for the lifesaving coverage of the Municipality of Kalamata.
At noon, the second phase of the event followed, at the Thalassa beach store, which included the announcement of the award-winning beaches, marinas and tourist boats, in the presence of many representatives of the local government and Tourism agencies.
