The estimated average rate of spread of the fire is estimated to be greater than 2,500 acres per hour
The figures for forestry are shocking fire in Mastrantonis Achaia as within 12 hours 30,000 acres of forest burned.
The distressing numbers come from the preliminary analysis of satellite data carried out by the FLAME Pyrometeorological Team of the METEO unit of the National Observatory of Athens.
More specifically, the analysis shows that the estimated total area affected by the forest fire that broke out at noon on Friday (21/06) amounts to more than 35,000 acres
As you will see on the map more than 30,000 acres were affected within 12 hoursfrom the time the fire occurred until midnight of the same day.
It is worth noting that in the above time period (21.06.2024, – 15:00 to 23:59), the estimated average rate of spread of the fire is estimated greater than 2,500 acres per hour.
For the same period the estimated average speed of fire spread is estimated at one kilometer per hour or 16 meters per minute.
The fire spread through agroforestry with the flames slowing and eventually being contained when the head of the fire reached an area dominated by agricultural crops.
