THE Microsoft will hire Sam Altman, co-founder and former CEO of the start-up OpenAISatya Nadella announced today, three days after the Silicon Valley star was fired.
OpenAI co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman will join other Microsoft colleagues to lead a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) research group, Satya Nadella tweeted (X).
OpenAI is the start-up that launched the Genetic Artificial Intelligence platform ChatGPT.
“The mission continues,” Sam Altman, 38, wrote on his own account.
Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in OpenAI and has incorporated this technology into its own products, such as the Bing search engine.
OpenAI’s board of directors made a surprise announcement on Friday dismissal of the Silicon Valley star after an investigative process that determined that “he was not always honest in his communication with the board, affecting his ability to fulfill his duties.”
That body no longer has “confidence in its ability to run OpenAI,” according to Friday’s announcement.
Since then, several executives at the company founded in 2015 have resigned, most notably board chairman Greg Brockman.
The launch of the first version of the ChatGPT platform in November 2022 opened the race for Artificial Intelligence.
Genetic Artificial Intelligence is considered a revolution equivalent to the advent of the Internet. It allows the production of texts, lines of code, images and sounds with a simple request in everyday language.
It also raises great concerns about the risks posed to democracy through mass disinformation or employment through job substitution.
