What the relevant amendment foresees – An increase of 350 million euros in budget appropriations
With an amendment provision submitted to the multi-law bill of the Ministry of Finance, the appropriations of the Public Investments budget for the financial year 2023 are increased by 350 million euros, while a number of other outstanding issues, such as the Rhodes Pass, are regulated.
The granting of financial aid for the tourism support of the island of Rhodes comes as a consequence of the catastrophic fires that occurred in July 2023. Beneficiaries are natural persons, regardless of nationality, who stayed in hotels that were evacuated during the occurrence of forest fires in July 2023, while within the framework of the aid, a seven-day stay is foreseen within the time intervals:
- March 15, 2024 – May 15, 2024 or
- 1 October 2024 – 15 November 2024.
It is recalled that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had previously spoken about the “Rhodes Pass”. “We will find a formula which I believe will be fair, so that those who were forced to interrupt their holidays, can, if they wish, return to the island for free during those periods when we want more visitors and 2024 will be the opportunity to complete the vacations that they did not manage to do this year for free”, he pointed out characteristically.
