What do ELSTAT data show?
Speed up o inflation in October as it stood at 3.4% from 1.6% in September with precision in food persisting.
According to her data ELSTAT the General CPI in October 2023, compared to September 2023 showed an increase of 0.6%, against a decrease of 1.2% that occurred during the corresponding comparison of the previous year. The average CPI for the twelve months of November 2022 – October 2023, compared to the corresponding Index for the twelve months of November 2021 – October 2022, showed an increase of 4.2%, against an increase of 9.2% recorded during the corresponding comparison of the twelve months of November 2021 – October 2022 with the twelve months of November 2020 – October 2021.
In food, the biggest increases are recorded in oils – fats 26%, in fruits 20.5%, in vegetables 12.3%, while significant increases are found in pharmaceutical products 11.8% and in airline tickets 10.5%.
The increase of the General CPI by 3.4% in the month of October 2023, compared to the corresponding Index of October 2022, came mainly from the changes in the following groups of goods and services:
Of the increases in indicators by:
- 9.9% in the Food and non-alcoholic beverages group, due to price increases mainly in: bread and cereals, meats (general), fish (general), dairy and eggs, oils and fats, fruit (general), vegetables (general) , sugar chocolates-sweets-ice creams, other foods, coffee-cocoa-tea, mineral water-soft drinks-fruit juices.
- 2.6% in the group Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, due mainly to an increase in prices of alcoholic beverages (not served).
- 3.3% in the Clothing and Footwear group, due to price increases in clothing and footwear.
- 2.8% in the group Durable goods-Household goods and services, due mainly to price increases in: household appliances
- and repairs, glassware-tableware and housewares, household consumables, household services.
- 5.6% in the Health group, mainly due to price increases in: pharmaceutical products, medical products, medical, dental and paramedical services, hospital care.
- 3.1% in the Leisure-Cultural activities group, mainly due to price increases in: leisure and cultural durables, small leisure items-flowers-pets, cinemas-theatres, package holidays. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease in prices mainly in audio-visual equipment-computers-repairs.
- 3.5% in the Education group, mainly due to price increases in: pre-school and primary education fees, secondary education fees, tertiary education fees
- 4.8% in the Hotels-Cafes-Restaurants group, mainly due to an increase in prices in restaurants-patisseries cafes-canteens.
- 2.7% in the Other goods and services group, due mainly to price increases in: hair salons and personal care stores, other personal care items, health insurance premiums, vehicle insurance premiums.
From the reduction of the index by:
- 2.0% in the Housing group, mainly due to a decrease in natural gas prices. Part of this decrease was offset by the increase in prices mainly in: house rents, house repair and maintenance, electricity, heating oil, solid fuels.
- 0.4% in the Transportation group, mainly due to a decrease in fuel and lubricant prices. Part of this decrease was offset by price increases mainly in: new cars, used cars, car parts and accessories, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, air passenger tickets.
- 3.2% in the Communications group, mainly due to a decrease in prices for telephone services.
