Venice Residents Protest Bezos-Sánchez Wedding

Reactions have emerged in Venice ahead of the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, with activist groups denouncing the privatization of the city. The organization "No Space for Bezos" has staged protests.
According to Italian media, the wedding reception is expected to occupy the entire island of San Giorgio, opposite St. Mark's Square. Protests focus on the potential impact on the daily lives of residents, the environment, and housing.
Members of the "No Space for Bezos" group told Sky News that the event could close parts of the city, hinder the movement of locals, and create environmental concerns due to the use of yachts in the canals.
Federica Toninelli, an activist associated with the organization, stated that Venice is already suffering from overtourism and that the economic benefits from such events do not benefit the residents. Protesters are demanding the recovery of their city, which they claim is being privatized.
The protests are also linked to issues of affordable housing and the decline of the local population. The guest list is rumored to include figures such as Oprah Winfrey, Mick Jagger, and Ivanka Trump.
Sky TG24 in Italy reports that the couple will host a party on Jeff Bezos's super yacht, worth approximately $500 million, which will dock in the port of Venice.
