Athens Bar Association Criticizes Justice Minister for Naming Rape Victims

The Athens Bar Association (DSA) has strongly condemned the action of the Minister of Justice, Giorgos Floridis, for publicly naming four women who were victims of rape.
In a statement issued on June 23, 2025, the DSA emphasizes that rape victims deserve absolute respect and protection and should not be involved in political disputes.
The DSA underlines that mentioning the names of the victims did not contribute anything to the discussion, regardless of the protection of personal data.
Furthermore, the DSA states that lawyers have an obligation to take on every case, unless it is manifestly unfounded or conflicts with the interests of other clients.
Finally, the DSA points out that delays in criminal proceedings are not the responsibility of lawyers, but of the judicial panels and the shortcomings in the infrastructure of the Greek Justice system.
The DSA calls on public figures to set an example of exemplary behavior.
