Bears Escape Enclosure in Britain, Devour Week's Worth of Honey

Two European brown bears, Miss and Lucy, escaped their enclosure at the Wildwood Trust wildlife park in Britain and headed straight for the honey storage.
According to the BBC, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon when the bears entered a staff area and consumed a week's supply of honey. A staff member spotted the bears outside their enclosure around 3 p.m., triggering safety protocols and the park's evacuation.
Sixteen visitors, including children, remained safe in a designated play area for approximately 55 minutes until the bears returned to their enclosure. Mark Habben, director of the Wildwood Trust, stated that the bears were calm and the staff responded professionally.
Besides the honey, the bears played with ropes and toys. Lucy needed some extra persuasion to return, while Miss returned on her own. The park emphasizes that there was no threat to visitors, and an investigation is underway to determine how the bears escaped their enclosure.
Miss and Lucy were rescued in 2019 from a snowstorm in Albania and are housed at the Wildwood Trust, as it was determined they could not survive in the wild without human care.
