34-year-old Driver Remanded in Custody for Fatal Lamia Accident

The 34-year-old driver involved in the fatal traffic accident that killed the Deputy Mayor of Lamia, Kostas Stavrogiannis, has been remanded in custody.

The tragic incident occurred on the new ring road of Prophet Elias, near the exit to Lamia Hospital. 64-year-old Kostas Stavrogiannis was fatally injured, while his 54-year-old wife suffered serious injuries and is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.

The 34-year-old driver, who sustained minor injuries, was arrested on the spot by the authorities and, after his apology to an investigator and prosecutor, was taken to prison where he will remain until the trial.

The local community has been plunged into mourning, and the Lamia City Council has declared three days of mourning in memory of the deceased Deputy Mayor. Authorities are continuing their investigations to clarify the exact causes of the accident.

An expert report has already been ordered.
