5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Dominican Republic

A strong earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck the marine area off the coast of the Dominican Republic, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The USGS reported that the focal depth of the earthquake was only 2 kilometers.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) initially estimated the magnitude of the quake at 6.7, but later revised it to 5.9.
