A new report by the International Panel for the Information Environment (IPIE) argues that misinformation regarding climate change is a significant obstacle to addressing the crisis.

The report, based on an assessment of 300 scientific studies, finds that climate action is delayed due to false narratives originating from fossil fuel companies, politicians, and certain states.

According to The Guardian, traditional climate change denial is being replaced by new narratives that undermine solutions, such as false claims about power outages caused by green energy. UN Special Rapporteur Elisa Morgera called on states to politicize misinformation and greenwashing.

António Guterres has called fossil fuel companies 'godfathers of climate chaos' and called for a ban on their advertising. The report also refers to conspiracy theories and the spread of misinformation through troll farms and politicians such as Donald Trump.

In Europe, parties such as AfD, Vox and National Rally are accused of undermining scientific consensus on the climate crisis.

The report proposes measures such as regulating digital platforms, transparency on emissions, and strengthening environmental education.
