Trump to Release Gold Coin Featuring His Likeness

A federal committee has approved the release of a 24-karat gold commemorative coin featuring the likeness of Donald Trump. The decision has sparked controversy, with critics arguing that minting a coin with the image of a sitting president goes against American values, especially as the country celebrates the 250th anniversary of its independence.
The coin will depict Trump with a stern expression, based on a photograph from the National Portrait Gallery in Washington. It will bear the inscription "In God We Trust" and the word "Liberty."
A proposal has also been made to mint a $1 coin featuring Trump's image to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. However, this would violate the law, which prohibits depicting sitting or former presidents until three years after their death.
Chamberlain Harris, a White House advisor, stated that Trump would prefer the largest possible coin.
Democratic senators, such as Jeff Merkley, stated that the Trump administration's decision is an attempt to distort the meaning of the anniversary.
The proposal for the gold coin is the latest effort by the administration to associate Trump's name with public institutions in the USA.
