West Point Cancels Tom Hanks Award Amid Biden Support?

The U.S. Military Academy at West Point has canceled the award ceremony for actor Tom Hanks, where he was to receive the Sylvanus Thayer Award 2025, just weeks before it was scheduled to take place.

According to the West Point Association of Graduates, the cancellation was to allow the academy to focus on educating its students. However, reports suggest the decision is linked to Tom Hanks' political stance, as he has financially supported Democrats, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama, and supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

Retired Lieutenant Colonel Mark Bigger stated in an email to faculty that the decision would allow the academy to focus on its primary goal of educating students.

Tom Hanks has served as a national spokesperson for the World War II Memorial and supported fundraising for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial.
