Trump Orders Halt to Anthropic Use by Government, Threatens Penalties

US President Donald Trump has ordered an immediate halt to the use of Anthropic's technology by all federal agencies after the company refused to grant unrestricted access to the Pentagon.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that all federal agencies must immediately cease using Anthropic's technology. He called the company's refusal a "catastrophic mistake" that endangers national security.
The withdrawal of Anthropic's tools will be phased in over the next six months, including the Department of Defense. Trump threatened the company with "serious civil and criminal consequences" if it does not comply.
Anthropic, the second-largest Artificial Intelligence company after OpenAI, has Gen AI models called Claude. Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, stated that he would not succumb to pressure for unrestricted use, citing concerns about potential misuse of the systems.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed support for Amodei. Employees at Amazon, Google, and Microsoft signed an open letter calling on their companies to refuse to comply with the Pentagon's demands.
Anthropic has a $200 million contract with the Pentagon, and its recent valuation reached $380 billion.
