Texas: Woman with Gun on Highway

A 64-year-old woman in Texas caused a disturbance on a highway by threatening to end her life. The woman was sitting in a chair in the middle of the highway holding a gun.

According to ABC News, the woman was allegedly involved in a car accident where she intentionally crashed into a truck. She then exited her vehicle and sat in the chair, holding the gun and expressing suicidal thoughts.

Police negotiators and her daughter arrived at the scene. The standoff ended peacefully when the woman surrendered. The 64-year-old reportedly has a history of mental illness.

The lanes of the highway north and south of Houston were closed during the incident.
