Chilling revelations about how many times the US nearly self-destructed due to mishandling of nuclear weapons.

We are told that nuclear weapons protect us, but history reveals a shocking number of cases where the US nearly accidentally set itself on fire.

1958: The year everything went wrong. In the early years, disasters were mainly avoided due to the construction of the weapons. As Rebecca Grant explains, the bombs required a capsule of nuclear material to be connected to the body of the bomb, which rarely happened during flight. In 1957, a bomb accidentally fell from a B-36 in New Mexico, creating a 7-meter crater, but fortunately it did not explode.

But in 1958, luck began to run out. In February, a B-47 lost a nuclear weapon off the coast of Georgia, which was never found. A month later, another bomb fell in South Carolina, injuring six people and causing property damage.
