New York: Car Explosion in the Bronx, 7 Injured

A car explosion occurred in the Bronx, New York, resulting in injuries to seven firefighters. The incident happened on Wednesday evening (5/11) while firefighters were responding to a building fire at Intervale Avenue and Kelly Street in Longwood.

According to the New York Post, the explosion occurred around 7:06 p.m. The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) reported that three of the firefighters were admitted to Jacobi Hospital with severe burns, while the other four sustained minor injuries.

Department Chief John Esposito stated that there was trash and debris on the sidewalk that had caught fire, as well as some cars. Shortly after the firefighters arrived, the explosion occurred.

Dr. Sheldon Temperman from Jacobi Hospital reported that a wall of fire surrounded the firefighters. The fire was brought under control at 8:19 p.m. Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion.
