New York: Man Tried to Acquire Hotel for $200

A man in New York pleaded guilty to fraud after attempting to become the owner of the iconic Hotel New Yorker by paying just $200.
Mickey Barreto paid $200 for one night in 2018 and then, invoking an old law, requested a lease. When the hotel refused, the case went to court.
Due to the absence of the hotel's lawyers at a hearing, Barreto was granted the right to stay in the room, residing there for years without payment.
