Reports of Inhumane Treatment of Detained Migrants in the US

Human Rights Watch (HRW) reports serious human rights violations in migrant detention centers in Florida under the Trump administration. The NGO cites overcrowding, inhumane treatment, and denial of basic healthcare services.
The report focuses on the Krome North Service Processing Center, Broward Transitional Center, and the federal detention center in Miami, based on testimonies from detainees, relatives, and lawyers. Reports include being forced to sleep on the floor, exposure to constant light and cold, and psychological distress.
Testimonies describe unsanitary conditions and denial of medical care, including delayed surgeries and deaths due to lack of care. According to HRW, 72% of detainees had no criminal record, while occupancy reached three times the capacity.
Donald Trump has prioritized the mass deportation of migrants. The recent fiscal law provides $45 billion to increase detention center capacity.
The federal agency ICE has not commented on the report. Arrests and detention of migrants are causing reactions in the US.
