US: Judge Orders Release of 5-Year-Old Detained by ICE

A judge in Texas has ordered the release of a 5-year-old child who was detained by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents in Minnesota, along with his father. The decision follows strong reactions to the arrest of young Liam Conejo Ramos from Ecuador.

The judge criticized the arrest, calling it "flawed" and part of an effort to meet daily deportation quotas, even if it means causing physical or psychological harm to children. The order requires the child's release no later than Tuesday.

According to the DHS (Department of Homeland Security), the child was apprehended during an operation targeting his father. The family's lawyer argued that an asylum application had been submitted in December 2024 and there was no deportation order in effect.
