The summit between then-US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska brought the state to the center of global attention. The summit, held amidst the war in Ukraine, was considered one of the most significant events in Alaska's modern history.

As reported by the Anchorage Daily News, "All eyes are on Anchorage." Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy stated that the meeting "puts Alaska on the world map." The increased demand led to soaring hotel prices, with rooms costing from $300 to $1,000 per night.

Hundreds of journalists and officials flocked to Anchorage, resulting in local businesses increasing prices. David Liles, manager of the Ramada by Wyndham, reported that occupancy increased from 60% to 100%, with room rates ranging from $500 to $1,000. Russian journalists were forced to sleep in a sports stadium due to a lack of available rooms.

Despite the disruption, most locals seemed to support the meeting. A poll showed that 59% of registered voters considered it appropriate to invite Putin to US soil.
