US Supreme Court Blocks Trump's Tariffs

The US Supreme Court on Friday blocked President Donald Trump's attempt to impose sweeping tariffs on numerous countries, ruling that he does not have the authority to do so under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The decision was reached by a 6-3 vote.
The court upheld lower court rulings that had deemed the tariffs illegal. In Greece, as in the rest of the European Union, tariffs of around 20% had been imposed.
Trump called the decision a "disgrace" and stated that he has a "backup plan." The ruling limits the president's ability to use the IEEPA but does not prevent him from imposing tariffs under other trade authorities.
The legal battle over the tariffs was the first in which the Supreme Court assessed the legal basis of one of Trump's central policies of his second term.
