US Supreme Court Rules Against Trump's Tariffs

The US Supreme Court ruled that President Trump did not have the authority to unilaterally impose tariffs on almost all countries worldwide under federal emergency powers law.
The decision is considered a blow to the president's economic policy. The court ruled that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) does not authorize the president to impose such tariffs.
The ruling upheld two lower court decisions that found the tariffs unlawful. The legal battle was the first in which the Supreme Court assessed the legal basis of a central policy of Trump's second term.
Although the Supreme Court allowed the president to temporarily implement many of his plans, the decision to overturn the tariffs is a significant defeat.
