Hezbollah refuses to surrender its weapons, as stated by a member of the organization, following the Lebanese government's announcement of a plan to disarm the Shiite group. The government of Nawaf Salam, under pressure from the US and due to fears of escalating Israeli bombings, had requested the armed forces to draw up a disarmament plan by the end of the year.

Following a meeting of the government council, it was announced that the army would begin implementing the plan, without specifying the timeline. MP Hassan Ezzedine stated that Hezbollah would not abandon its weapons 'under any circumstances and for any reason.' He also warned of the consequences of this 'spasmodic and reckless decision.'

Hezbollah is the only organization that did not surrender its weapons after the Lebanese civil war (1975-90). The organization claims that the authorities are following the dictates of Israel and the US. It has been weakened after the war with Israel in 2024, with its leadership suffering significant losses and some of its weaponry destroyed.
