UN: Attacks on Civilian Infrastructure in Iran are a War Crime

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk condemned the inflammatory rhetoric surrounding the war in the Middle East, stressing that attacks against civilian infrastructure constitute a war crime.
According to Türk, deliberate attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure violate international law and those responsible must be held accountable. His statements followed threats by Donald Trump of a potential strike on Iran's energy infrastructure.
Türk criticized threats aimed at annihilating an entire civilization, calling them appalling, and warned that the implementation of such threats would amount to the commission of the most serious international crimes.
The High Commissioner called on the international community to take immediate action to de-escalate the situation and protect civilians.
