Five years mark the anniversary of the deadly explosion in the port of Beirut. The President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, has pledged to deliver justice, emphasizing that those responsible will be held accountable.

On August 4, 2020, the explosion caused the death of more than 220 people and injured 6,500. The explosion was triggered by a fire in a silo where tons of ammonium nitrate were stored without safety measures.

Joseph Aoun stated that the Lebanese state is committed to revealing the truth, despite the obstacles. Today has been declared a day of national mourning.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stressed that revealing the truth is a national issue. Mariana Fodoulian, from the victims' families association, demanded full justice.

The grain silos will be included in the list of historical buildings, following a request from the victims' families.
