The Republic of Cyprus is prioritizing the repatriation of Cypriot citizens from the Middle East as soon as conditions allow, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Theodoros Gotsis.

Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos is in telephone contact with partners, in view of developments in the region. He contacted the EU High Representative, Kaja Kallas, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Giorgos Gerapetritis.

Mr. Kombos emphasized the need for de-escalation, diplomacy and dialogue to ensure regional stability and security.

Meanwhile, an extraordinary EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting is scheduled, with the participation of Mr. Kombos, to discuss coordination measures for citizens.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the accommodation costs of those affected will be covered, while Cypriot citizens are asked to update their details on the Connect2CY platform.
