Israeli Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced the rebuilding of the Sa-Nur Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank, which Israel had evacuated in 2005.

"We are correcting the mistake of the expulsion," said the Finance Minister, accompanying a group of families preparing to settle on the ruins of the settlement.

The Palestinian Authority condemned the action, calling it an "invasion by Israeli officials" and a "systematic undermining of the two-state solution."

The Israeli government had decided in May to "develop" 22 new Jewish settlements in the West Bank, including Sa-Nur.

Smotrich stated that an "installation and security revolution" is taking place in Judea-Samaria (West Bank).

Settlement activity in the West Bank has continued since 1967 and has intensified since the start of the war in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
