Israel Intercepts Flotilla Heading to Gaza

The Israeli military intercepted a flotilla of ships heading to the Gaza Strip, aiming to deliver humanitarian aid and break the naval blockade. According to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, no damage was caused to the ships, and the passengers were transferred to an Israeli port.
Organizers denounced the action as an illegal attack against unarmed humanitarian workers and are calling for the release of those on board. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot called on Israeli authorities to guarantee the safety of the participants. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated that the activists were temporarily detained and will return to Europe.
Protests took place in Rome and Naples. The Turkish Foreign Ministry described Israel's action as a terrorist act. The convoy departed from Spain in early September, with 45 ships and activists from 40 countries.
