Iran: Submersible Drones Used in Tanker Attacks

International reports document attacks against commercial ships and tankers in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, a critical point for navigation and energy. Approximately one-fifth of global oil and LNG trade passes through there.
In at least two instances, naval drones were used. Recent attacks were carried out by unmanned surface vessels, small speedboat-kamikazes filled with explosives that are directed onto the ship and explode on impact.
Reuters describes an object in the shape of a small speedboat hitting the side of a tanker. Ambrey and RUSI experts estimate that it is a naval surface drone.
