Iran: At Least 5,000 Protesters Dead, Authorities Claim

An Iranian official stated that authorities have confirmed at least 5,000 deaths in the Iranian protests, including 500 members of the security services.

The official, who wished to remain anonymous, told Reuters that the worst clashes took place in the Kurdish regions of northwestern Iran. He also claimed that Israel and foreign armed forces supported the protesters.

The official stated that a dramatic increase in the final death toll is not expected.
