Iran: First French Military Death in Iraq Attack

A French soldier was killed in an attack in the Erbil region of Iraqi Kurdistan, announced French President Emmanuel Macron. This marks the first French military death since the start of the war in the Middle East.
Staff Sergeant Arnaud Frion, of the 7th Alpine Rifle Battalion, "fell for France during an attack in the Erbil region of Iraq," Macron stated, also confirming that other soldiers were injured.
According to the French General Staff, the soldiers were training "Iraqi partners" involved in "the fight against terrorism." The attack was carried out by drones against a base near Erbil.
Macron emphasized that the attack against French forces, who have been participating in the fight against Daesh since 2015, is unacceptable. He also highlighted France's defensive role in the region, with the presence of an air-naval force in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Iraqi Kurdistan has suffered repeated attacks since the outbreak of the war in the Middle East, attributed to organizations affiliated with Iran.
