Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has condemned the 'assassination' of an Al Jazeera journalist in the Gaza Strip, for which the Israeli army has claimed responsibility. According to RSF, the journalist is Anas Al-Sharif.

Al Jazeera announced the deaths of five of its journalists in an Israeli strike. Among them was Anas Al-Sharif, 28, whom the Israeli army described as a 'terrorist.' Other deceased journalists include Mohammed Kouraika, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Alioua.

RSF has filed 'four complaints' against the Israeli army with the 'International Criminal Court for war crimes against journalists in Gaza.' The Israeli army confirmed that it targeted Al-Sharif, claiming he was the 'head of a Hamas terrorist cell.' RSF responded that the accusations were made 'without evidence.'

According to RSF, on July 31, 2024, the Israeli army killed journalists Ismail al-Ghoul and Rami al-Refi in a targeted strike.
