Gaza: 21,000 Children Disabled by War, says UN

At least 21,000 children in Gaza have become disabled as a result of the war between Israel and Hamas since October 7, 2023, according to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CDPH), a United Nations agency.
The committee estimates that approximately 40,500 children have suffered injuries. The CDPH called on Israel to take measures to protect disabled children and implement evacuation protocols that take their needs into account.
The Committee reported that 83% of disabled people have lost their assistive equipment and that restrictions on humanitarian aid have a disproportionate impact on disabled people.
The CDPH called for the delivery of massive humanitarian aid to disabled people and stressed that all parties must take measures to protect them.
According to the Committee, from October 7, 2023, to August 21, at least 157,114 people have been injured, with 25% at risk of permanent disability.
