Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis presented a 5-point plan to the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) of the European Union, aiming to address the crisis in the Middle East.

Upon his arrival at the FAC, Mr. Gerapetritis stated that the situation in the region is "extremely volatile and complex," causing concern in the European Union and "serious tremors in the global security architecture."

He referred to the terrorist attack on the Holy Church of Prophet Elias in Damascus, stressing that it is a "blind strike that highlights the intensity, but also the asymmetry in the threat that exists."

The 5-point plan proposed by Mr. Gerapetritis includes: a political solution through self-restraint and de-escalation, protection of civilians and freedom of navigation, active participation of the EU in current processes, increased humanitarian aid to Gaza, and support for the Palestinian Authority. Additionally, the Minister referred to the need to control migration flows and respect International Law.

Finally, Mr. Gerapetritis stressed that the issues in the Middle East are linked to Syria and Libya, where increased migration flows are observed.
