Israel's Secret Files: 83% of Gaza Deaths are Civilians

Data from a classified Israeli military database reveals that 83% of those killed in Gaza since the war began in October 2023 are civilians. The investigation, published by the Guardian, +972 Magazine, and Local Call, is based on Israeli military intelligence data.

In May, Israeli officials recorded 8,900 Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters as dead or 'likely dead.' Gaza Health Authorities reported 53,000 Palestinian deaths from Israeli attacks. Fighters named in the military database represent only 17% of the total.

Therése Pettersson from the Uppsala Conflict Data Program stated that this percentage of civilians is unusually high for modern conflicts. Israeli academics and organizations accuse Israel of genocide in Gaza.

The Israeli military did not dispute the existence of the database but stated that 'the data presented in the article is incorrect,' without specifying which data it disputes.
