In Chile, voters have elected a president from the far-right for the first time since the Pinochet dictatorship. The left-wing candidate, Jeannette Jara, conceded defeat in the second round of elections to José Antonio Kast.

According to initial results, with 20% of the votes counted, Kast secured 59.83% of the votes, compared to Jara's 40.17%. Jara stated via X that she called Kast to wish him success "for the good of Chile."

Kast's victory marks the first time in 35 years that a far-right politician has assumed the highest office in Chile.
