Brussels: Simulation Exercise on Mutual Assistance Clause Held

In Brussels, ambassadors from European Union countries conducted a simulation exercise on the mutual assistance clause, which is activated when a member state is attacked.

The aim of the exercise is to determine when Article 42.7 is triggered and what support will be provided by Brussels. One scenario involves an attack on an island member state that does not belong to NATO, such as Cyprus, Malta, and Ireland.

The results of the exercise will be taken into account in determining a roadmap for decisions to be taken in the near future.
