Venezuela: At Least 47 Soldiers Dead in Maduro Capture Operation

At least 47 soldiers were killed in Venezuela during a U.S. operation to capture President Nicolás Maduro, the country's defense minister announced.
Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino LĂłpez stated that the total toll is 83 dead and over 112 injured, including 47 military personnel, nine of whom were women. The statements were made during a religious service for the victims.
These announcements contradict a previous toll from the Interior Ministry, which spoke of approximately 100 deaths. The Venezuelan army had published obituaries for 23 members killed during the operation.
Interim President Delsy RodrĂguez declared seven days of national mourning for the victims. Simultaneously, Cuban authorities announced that 32 Cubans, members of Maduro's security detail, were also killed.
