Venezuela: Industry Minister Alex Saab Removed from Government

Venezuela's interim president, Delsy Rodríguez, announced the removal of Alex Saab from his position as Minister of Industry. Saab was considered a close associate of Nicolás Maduro.

Rodríguez thanked Saab for his services and announced that he would take on new duties. Luis Antonio Villegas was appointed in his place.

Alex Saab was arrested in 2021 and imprisoned in the United States on charges of misusing humanitarian aid. In December 2023, he was exchanged for ten American prisoners in Venezuela, and in December 2024 he was appointed Minister of Industry.
