Trump: Greece has a leading role in NATO, US-Greece relations stronger than ever

US President Donald Trump described Greek-American relations as 'stronger than ever' during the credentials ceremony of the new Greek Ambassador to the US, Antonis Alexandridis.
Mr. Trump emphasized that the friendship between Greece and the US is 'strong, historic, and based on a shared democratic and intellectual heritage,' expressing his anticipation for further strengthening bilateral relations.
He referred to Greece's progress towards the NATO target of 2% of GDP for defense spending, noting Athens' 'real leadership presence' within the Alliance. He also mentioned the export of American liquefied natural gas and the Vertical Corridor, emphasizing the strengthening of energy security.
Mr. Trump expressed his appreciation for Greece's abstention during the adoption of the framework for net-zero emissions by the International Maritime Organization, arguing that the regulation would burden consumers, businesses, and global trade.
Finally, he referred to the potential strengthening of cooperation in the shipbuilding industry, including talks on the construction of American frigates in Greece, as well as the expansion of bilateral relations in the fields of trade and investment.
