Trump: South Korea in the throes of a 'purge'
Share on:

Donald Trump has criticized South Korea, just hours before his meeting with President Lee Jae-myung at the White House.

Trump wrote on Truth Social about a possible 'purge' or 'revolution' in South Korea, questioning transactions with the country. The South Korean leader was expected to be received by Trump for talks.

The meeting comes after political turmoil in South Korea, with Yoon Suk-yeol being removed from office in April after attempting to impose martial law. The former president and his wife are in custody, while an arrest warrant has been issued for former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.

President Lee seeks agreements with the US in the trade sector and strategy towards North Korea, while talks are expected to focus on the military alliance between the two countries.
