US President Donald Trump expressed his belief that the war in Iran "will end soon enough," speaking at an event in Miami. He stated that the US is providing security to ships wishing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump stated he was "disappointed" by the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as Supreme Leader of Iran, following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei. He believes this development "will lead to more similar problems" for the country.

He also mentioned that he would have preferred Reza Pahlavi, the Shah's son, as the new leader of Iran, had he not been outside the country.
