Trump Seeks $1 Billion per Nation for Peace Council Membership

The Trump administration is reportedly seeking $1 billion from each nation desiring a permanent seat on the new Peace Council, according to a draft charter seen by Bloomberg.

Donald Trump would be the first president and would decide who is invited to join. Decisions will be made by majority vote, but subject to presidential approval.

Each member state will have a term of up to three years, renewable by the president. The three-year term does not apply to states contributing over $1 billion.

Critics worry Trump is creating an alternative to the UN. The Peace Council seeks to promote stability and peace in conflict-affected areas.

Several European countries have been invited to participate but oppose the draft charter.

The Council will meet at least once a year, with the agenda approved by the president.
