Turkey Threatens Great Sea Interconnector: "We Will Not Allow It"

Turkey has expressed its opposition to the implementation of the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI), just days after the RAEK approved €25 million in funding to ADMIE. Turkish Ministry of Defense sources stated that they will not allow the project to proceed, citing international law and the need for coordination with Turkey for any activity on its continental shelf.
According to Ankara, the Republic of Cyprus has committed violations with research activities by a Gibraltar-flagged vessel, which was allegedly intercepted by Turkish naval forces. The newspaper Milliyet reported that the Turkish navy prevented the ship Fugro Gauss from violating the Turkish continental shelf, while government sources in Cyprus have not received any official complaint from the company.
These actions are part of a framework of increasing tension in the Eastern Mediterranean, with Turkey seeking to play a dominant role in the region.
