The UN Security Council convened at Russia's request to discuss developments in the investigation into the explosions on the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea, which occurred on September 26, 2022.

The German Attorney General announced on August 21, 2025, the arrest of a Ukrainian man suspected of coordinating the explosions. The man, known as 'Serhii K.,' was arrested in Italy on a European arrest warrant. Germany claims he was part of a team that planted the explosives.

Russia cites the arrest of Serhii K. and speaks of delays and lack of transparency in the German investigation. Denmark, Germany, and Sweden rejected Russian claims of opacity, reiterating that the investigation is impartial and independent.

The Deputy Permanent Representative of Greece, Ioannis Stamatelos, condemned attacks against civilians and energy infrastructure and stressed that the Council is not the appropriate forum for discussing internal legal matters.

Denmark expressed confidence in the German authorities and recalled that one of the explosions occurred within the Danish EEZ, leading to a separate national investigation.

The US expressed full confidence in the independent judicial process in Germany.

The Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia, Dmitry Polyanskiy, questioned the version of amateur divers and the lack of accountability in the case.

The UN Security Council has dealt with the Nord Stream issue many times since 2022.
