Trump-Putin Meeting in Alaska: Encouraging Statements, No Peace Plan
Share on:

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin concluded their meeting in Alaska without revealing any peace plan for Ukraine. Despite what Trump called "very productive" and Putin termed "constructive" discussions, there were no specific announcements regarding the content of their talks.

Trump mentioned that "very few" points remain to be settled for a resolution to end the war in Ukraine, but cautioned that "there is no agreement until there is an agreement." There was no mention of a trilateral summit with Volodymyr Zelensky.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated that an agreement depends on the Ukrainian president. He also said he was not considering taking measures against Russia "because of what happened today."

Putin expressed hope that the mutual "understanding" reached would bring "peace" to Ukraine. The two presidents left without answering questions from reporters.

Ukraine and European leaders are awaiting updates on the talks. Russia demands territorial concessions and abstention from Western weapons and NATO membership, while Kyiv demands an immediate ceasefire and security guarantees.

Trump plans to contact NATO leaders and Zelensky. Putin invited Trump to Moscow for the next meeting.
