Trump-Putin Meeting in Alaska: Agenda and Delegations

The planned meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska appears to have a broader agenda than simply discussing the war in Ukraine. The composition of the delegations suggests discussions on economic, trade, and energy issues, as well as strategic resources.
According to CNN, Keith Kellogg, a former general and key interlocutor of the Trump administration with the Ukrainians, will not participate in the meeting. The absence of Kellogg, who is considered by the Russian side to be sympathetic to Ukraine, has raised concerns in Europe.
The American delegation, in addition to military and diplomatic figures, includes ministers with economic and trade portfolios. The Russian mission also includes political and economic figures, indicating Moscow's interest in expanding relations with the US beyond Ukraine.
Putin is reportedly seeking new trade agreements and a relaxation of Western sanctions, and may also raise the issue of US access to Russian natural resources. Trump, for his part, said his goal is to "save lives."
Key members of the delegations:
- Russia: Sergei Lavrov, Yuri Ushakov, Andrei Belousov, Anton Siluanov, Kirill Dmitriev.
- USA: Marco Rubio, Scott Bessent, Howard Lutnick, John Ratcliffe, Steve Witkoff, Pete Hegseth, General Dan Kane.
With both sides combining military power, diplomatic experience, and economic incentives, the meeting in Alaska is expected to be a multi-layered negotiation.
