Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Sibani, is in Athens today for talks with his Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis. The meeting focuses on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and concerns about minorities in Syria.

Giorgos Gerapetritis is expected to reiterate Greece's position on the need for stabilization in Syria, respect for human rights, and the protection of Christian and other minority communities. Particular emphasis will be placed on avoiding actions that could harm Greek and Cypriot interests, especially in relation to a possible agreement on the delimitation of maritime zones between Syria and Turkey.

Greece has expressed its intention to offer humanitarian and technical assistance to Syria, provided that human rights and international law are respected. Mr. Gerapetritis' previous visit to Damascus in February aimed to highlight Greek concerns about the political transition in the country.
