Sudan: At Least 460 Killed in Attack on Maternity Hospital

The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for a ceasefire in Sudan following reports that at least 460 people were killed in an attack on a maternity hospital in El Fasher.
The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) now control the entire Darfur region, which makes up one-third of the country. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed deep concern about the killing of patients and their companions at the Saudi maternity hospital in El Fasher, as well as the abduction of health workers.
Since the start of the conflict in April 2023, the WHO has recorded 185 attacks on health facilities, resulting in 1,204 deaths and 416 injuries. This year alone, there have been 49 attacks, with a total of 966 deaths.
Experts fear a new division of Sudan and a repeat of the massacres in Darfur.
